Is your wine collection piling up in boxes? Or is your old wine storage in need of a makeover? If so, now is the perfect time to start planning the perfect, modern wine cellar or wine room.
In 2021 we saw a spike in homeowners adding wine cellars, wine rooms, wine lounges, and wine walls to their homes. The outlook for 2022 is that we will continue to see an increase in the number of people wanting to include proper storage for their wine collections. Adding a wine room or wine wall to your home adds value to your home especially if it is properly installed. For more information about proper installation check out our article on Constructing a Wine Cellar.
In addition to preserving your collection and increasing your home’s value, a wine room or wine wall can be a statement piece and focal point of your entertaining space. As we look to the future, we wanted to give you some insight into the design trends for 2022 and how to incorporate them into your plans for a wine cellar.
1. Lush earth tones and dark accents
This is the year to move away from all white spaces or a palette of greys. Warm browns, caramel, and deep green bring an element of warmth and richness to any space. To incorporate these colors and tones into your wine cellar or wine room, consider wood cabinetry, black metal accents, and gold hardware.
2. Bold patterns and interesting textures
Maximalist style for 2022 is about filling a space with interest and variety including combining multiple patterns, different textures, and eclectic decorative elements. Consider a patterned tile floor for your wine cellar or an interesting marble or stone on the back of your wine wall. If you have space in your wine room, include artwork on the walls as well as sculptures or other decorative elements.
3. Green is the common theme
Hunter green, soft sage, teal, seafoam, or olive, the choices for green are endless. While green may not be your first choice, including elements in your wine cellar with subtle shades of green will help bring a connection to the outdoors.
4. Traditional elements
The renewed interest in traditional details is on the rise. Antiques, ornate wood trim, and fabrics such as velvet, linen, and silk all bring a sense of timelessness and nostalgia. Consider adding decorative molding or trim details to your wine racking.
5. Curves and rounded features
The theme of bringing the outdoors in with color and pattern also incorporates free flowing form to highlight natural elements. By utilizing rounded corners on countertops and arches in your wine cellar it softens a space and offers a sense of comfort.
